This past weekend my family and my dad's "following" went to climb Mt. Baker. We set out 5am on Saturday, the weather was beautiful. Sunshine was shining, birds were singing, and there was no cloud in the vicinity. Dad and I as usual were craving some Starbucks coffee, but no luck, it was not open at this hour. We had to settle for some small local coffee shop, which didn't turn out all that bad. Around 9am the whole group gathered and we set out for camp.
We got there extremely quickly, it was not even noon yet! We quickly set up camp, and had some lunch. I remember we had soup and bagels, which was rather nice.
Then my dad explained to his "following" usage of certain ropes, and how to provide security for yourself in case your partner falls down. We had later walked out into the snow and practiced being roped up, and rescuing a victim from a crevasse.
Upon return we had a quick super, some cookies with tea, and off to sleep we were!
Unfortunatly Sunday was not a nice day for a summit attempt! The weather was horrid. It was raining almost all the way to the top, add to that the howling wind and fog. We were soaked, and I particularly was not enjoying the climb. Finally we decided to turn back, while we were about 500meters from the summit ):
I really do not enjoy quitting while climbing, so it was sad, but I knew that going on forward was rather pointless. After coming back to camp, we snacked, packed everything up and headed on home~
As we all were really hungry, we stopped by at a Pho place to fill up our bellies. (:
Yesterday was Niyara's birthday, she turned six! We went to the newly opened Mizuki buffet. It was rather good, a large variety of sushi, sea food, and dessert, even a chocolate fountain (:
